High-Mileage Enyaq Proves Surprisingly Durable
Auto.cz magazine editor Martin Vaculík tested one of the first Enyaq cars. With the editorial team’s permission, we bring you an abridged version of the test.
The Enyaq 80 was lent to the magazine by its owner Ivan Tisovský, who bought one of the first cars from the limited Founders Edition in 2021. “I went into it knowing I would be an unpaid test driver. After all, somebody has to try it out,” laughs Tisovský, adding that he is very satisfied with the car despite some “teething troubles”.
The Auto.cz editor tried out the car and took it to the service centre in Kosmonosy, where specialists from the VAT – Service Technology department analysed it thoroughly. They confirmed, for example, what is perhaps the most interesting feature of the MEB platform: its chassis shows almost no wear. Although the kerb weight of these cars ranges between 2,100 and 2,250 kg depending on the version, the chassis usually has no play at all even after 300,000 km. The Enyaq shows that it can be done: most of its owners have not yet had to spend anything at all on the chassis, and the same goes for the brakes. The editors were surprised by how little brake shoe dust there was in the rear drum, especially as cleaning the drum is not part of the service schedule at the two-year inspections. Other advantages mentioned include savings on operating fluids. The analysis showed, for example, that even the oil in the automatic gearbox had retained its quality and did not need changing.
A huge surprise was the excellent condition of the traction battery, whose capacity dropped by only 13% after 240,000 km and five years. What is more, degradation tends to slow down over time. “The battery dropped from the original 77 kWh of usable capacity to 67.6 kWh. If the owner continues to take such good care of the car, the battery will keep a very good capacity even beyond 400,000 km,” said Zdeněk Kuntoš from VAT/22 – TSC – Powertrain. Activating Battery Care mode helped the battery last so long. In the vast majority of cases, Tisovský charges his electric car to only 80% from his 11 kW home wallbox.
